BESA testing provides a recognised benchmark for assessing HIU performance, and as more manufacturers publish results, understanding what the data really means becomes increasingly important.

Essco’s EDGE heat interface unit has been independently tested and passed the latest BESA HIU Test Regime, achieving a WVART of just 26°C high temp / 32°C low temp, and a DHW response time of 10 secs high temp / 9 secs low temp*. These results place the unit among the leading performers for efficiency and hot water responsiveness.

Mike Bennett, Product Manager at Essco, comments:

“These results validate the performance targets we set from the outset. The unit delivers fast hot water response and consistent heating performance while supporting lower return temperatures across the network. It provides operators with the efficiency they need and residents with the comfort and control they expect. The design focuses on real operational challenges, and these results confirm it performs as intended.”

What these results mean

  • Verified performance data gives specifiers confidence in their decision
  • Stable return temperatures support efficient heat networks for operators
  • Consistent hot water performance keeps residents comfortable

About the EDGE HIU

Designed for communal and district heat networks, the EDGE HIU provides each dwelling with independent control of space heating and domestic hot water. Intelligent PID-based electronic temperature control enables rapid response to demand, supporting both user comfort and network efficiency.

EDGE HIU

Key features include:

  • Flexible plate heat exchanger options
  • Fully insulated enclosure to reduce heat loss
  • Remote control and fault finding via web app or homeowner Wi-Fi
  • Reversible design to suit varied installation orientations
  • Fully accessible components with inspectable strainers for easier servicing

The unit is billing-neutral and ready to connect to standard credit or PAYG metering systems. Open access to meter data via M-Bus or third-party systems means operators can switch providers without restriction.

EDGE HIUs support efficient operation through programmable keep-warm modes, incorporate WRAS-approved components and include features designed to lower return temperatures and improve overall system efficiency.
