EcoPark Turns Waste into Energy

We recently supplied two plate heat exchangers to Baystar Ltd for the renewable heating and cooling system at EcoPark House. This included a 120kW PHE for heat rejection and a 100kW PHE for cooling. The project is part of the first phase in North London Waste Authority’s plan to build a £1.2bn sustainable waste management hub at Edmonton EcoPark. Here a waste-to-energy plant burns waste from several London boroughs to provide electricity for the National Grid.

EcoPark House Education and Visitors’ Centre

Work is currently underway at EcoPark House, which is an education and visitors’ centre where people can find out about recycling, heat, power, and how to reduce the carbon impact of their waste. With the environment at the heart of the project, EcoPark House will be ‘off grid’, featuring a renewable energy system powered by solar photovoltaic panels and geothermal energy.

Renewable Heating & Cooling System

The renewable heating and cooling plant is being installed by Baystar Ltd who are partnering with ESB Energy. The system includes a 25-100kW Eco Forest ground source heat pump capable of providing simultaneous heating and cooling to EcoPark House. The plate heat exchangers supplied by Essco will be used to separate the glycol in the boreholes from the secondary side of the system. One PHE will transfer the chilled glycol to the cooling buffer and the other will be used to dump heat into the boreholes when there is no heating demand whilst there is a demand for cooling.

Jason Bayliss, Contracts Director at Baystar Ltd comments, “We’ve built a great working relationship with Essco over several years, so we didn’t hesitate to contact them to source the plate heat exchangers for this project. We find their customer service to be excellent, with a quick response to emails, technical questions, and quotes that are timely and competitive”.
